Writing Ideas

In November, Mark Larson and I made a presentation at the NCTE. The title of our program was "Short, Sweet, and Complete. Write a short story in one class period."

We began by asking the 250 teachers who crammed into the room to write a short short story about a tense moment in a basketball game. (I've used this a lot this a lot lately) They wrote like crazy. We then asked the to share what they had written in small groups. Seven teachers then volunteered to read their stories to the entire group. Great stuff! We finished off by explaining other ways to generate a short story in one class.

If you would like a copy of the information we passed out, let me know, and I'll mail it to you.
